Leading the Finance Service, you’ll work across the organisation to make sure that we deliver efficiently and effectively. You’ll work with colleagues and partners to drive productivity and make sure your teams are a great partner for our services.
You’ll know what good looks like and be robust and determined to deliver change and improvement in our financial governance, processes and culture. You’ll work closely with your team to review current practice, drawing on external expert advice, and embed best practice into all that we do.
You’ll lead and support the teams within the service to ensure that the Council’s financial and budget management systems deliver an accurate and current reflection of the organisation’s financial standing. You’ll ensure that effective reporting mechanisms support regular reviews and evaluation of current performance, allowing a better informed corporate perspective on risk and quickly highlighting any areas of concern. As the Council’s Deputy S151 Officer you will work closely with the Director of Resources, and there is considerable scope for the right person to develop and enhance their professional credentials in this role
Your technical proficiency will be key in quickly building credibility within your team and with colleagues across the organisation. Effective relationship building skills will be equally important and it’s essential that you understand the dynamics of working within a political setting. Confident, accurate and well-informed, you’ll work to ensure consistency of approach across the Council, and provide expert support to Directorate leads in their devolved financial management. A thorough understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements around corporate financial reporting is a must-have. And it’s vital that you can quickly translate new initiatives into tangible and sustained improvement – ensuring we get the day-to-day right, while always retaining a clear cross-council perspective.
